1995

Dear Family and Friends,

It seems like just yesterday that I was writing the 1994 letter. At that time, we were preparing for our trip to Nashville for Christmas. It was great getting to spend the holiday in my former hometown. Well, here we are in 1995. We have lots of good news to share.

Trey is now a 2 1/2-year-old toddler with a strong will and a stubborn streak. He still enjoys electronic stuff but really is into vehicles of any type now. His collection of Matchbox vehicles grows by the week. After being diagnosed with some speech difficulties and sensory defensiveness, he is receiving weekly therapy and improving a lot. He is back at SMU Day Care Center since his baby-sitter moved to New Mexico.

Allen continues to thrive at SMU. His job this year was a great challenge after a very destructive flood wiped out his entire computer center in May and had to be reorganized from scratch before students came back in August. He also continues to consult in a moonlighting capacity. Allen donned a tuxedo twice this year -- once as groomsman at his best friend's wedding (Trey was a ring bearer and also wore a tux), and again when giving away the bride at another close friend's wedding (I was a bridesmaid in that one). His other exciting news is that he traded in his 1986 Cadillac on a new Saturn and just loves it. Allen worked for a while this summer with the church youth group before other commitments pulled him away.

My good news is that I also got a new car this year; a Saturn. We were really impressed with them. This time last year, I was suffering the misery of a sinus infection that wouldn't quit and didn't respond to drugs at all. My surgery in January to clear up those pesky sinuses was a success and I haven't breathed as well in years! I still work for the same company I've been with for over 2 years. The work has been busier this year as there have been some personnel changes, etc. I got to go to Indianapolis in June with coworkers to represent the company at an industry trade show. We were busy, but I had some time to catch up with a college friend which was fun.

Our summer vacation this year was spent in Salem, Oregon with many other relatives gathered to celebrate my maternal grandparents' 60th wedding anniversary. We had such a good time escaping the hot Dallas summer and seeing some people we hadn't seen in a long time. We got to meet our new nephew Matthew, born in February to my sister Julie and her husband Joe. Our Labor Day weekend was spent in Tybee Island, Georgia relaxing on the beach with Allen's parents and his brother's family who live in Augusta.

Our final and biggest news is that we have just moved into a larger house that we designed ourselves. In a big, older city like Dallas, it is rare to find a newly built home. Many of our friends have moved to far-away suburbs to get new houses. When we learned of a new subdivision going up just 3 miles from our former home, we couldn't resist the opportunity to remain close to jobs, friends, and family while living in a modern dream house. If you ever plan to build a house, we can give you horror stories and good advice. It has been an experience we won't soon forget. At the moment, we're still living out of boxes but plan to be unpacked sometime before Spring! Happy Holidays to you all and please keep in touch.

With love, Terri, Allen, and Trey Gwinn
